You’ve probably have never heard of the case of Chicken Ranch Rancheria vs the State of California, but the outcome of it’s case will be felt across the state for tribal gaming communities. The case, brought by 5 tribes, basically says the state was not negotiating in good faith, and after a lengthy battle, the state gave in… and the case was dismissed. This now allows those tribes to negotiate with the National Indian Gaming Commission and could allow for gaming expansion… and not only for the 5 tribes named in the suit, but other tribes in the state as well.
