There will be no charges against the Sonoma County Sheriff’s deputy who shot and killed David Pelaez-Chavez fifteen months ago, that is the decision of DA Carla Rodriguez after an extensive investigation.
Deputies responded back in 2022 to reports of Chavez breaking windows in a home, stealing a truck in which he dragged the owner down a driveway and had methanphetamines in his system.
After a 45 minute pursuit, deputies say he threatened them with throwing rocks at them and behaved aggressively. An independent use of force expert also concluded that the deputy and his partner acted with reasonable use of force when Chavez was shot.
